Why We Built MustDuo

Your watch can tell you your heart rate, steps, calories, and sleep.

But walk into a weight room and something changes.

The numbers that matter most are often much simpler:

  • How much did you lift?

  • How many reps did you complete?

  • How many sets?

  • And are those numbers improving?

That gap is why we built MustDuo.

Resistance training is measurable

A strength workout isn’t just 45 minutes of activity. It’s a series of sets performed against resistance.

For example:

Squat: 185 lb × 8 reps × 3 sets

Four weeks later:

Squat: 195 lb × 10 reps × 3 sets

Something changed.

You lifted more weight and completed more repetitions. Over time, those changes help you understand whether your training is moving in the direction you want.

The 2026 American College of Sports Medicine position stand reviewed 137 systematic reviews involving more than 30,000 participants and confirmed that resistance training can improve strength, muscle growth, power, muscular endurance, and physical function. It also emphasizes that training variables such as load and volume should be selected according to the goal rather than following one universal formula.

The science isn’t missing.

The measurement is.

The problem is remembering what happened

Anyone who has trained consistently knows the routine.

You finish a set, rack the weight, and think:

Was that 8 or 9 reps?

What did I use last week?

Was that my second set or third?

Do that for hundreds of workouts and small gaps in memory become a big gap in your training history.

And that history matters.

Research on feedback and self-monitoring suggests that useful objective feedback can improve aspects of performance and make physical-activity behavior easier to manage. But feedback only helps when the information is actually useful and available when you need it.

That’s the problem we wanted to solve.

Your fitness data shouldn’t stop at your wrist

Modern wearables are excellent at measuring physiological context.

Heart rate can tell you about your body’s response to exercise.

Activity tracking can tell you how much you moved.

Sleep tracking can help you understand recovery.

But none of those measurements directly tells you whether your bench press went from:

185 × 8 → 195 × 8

That’s a different kind of information.

It’s your training performance.

And for resistance training, that information matters.

So we built MustDuo

MustDuo is designed around a simple idea: your lifting should be as measurable as the rest of your fitness.

Reps. Sets. Resistance. Progress. Captured while you train, not hours later.

We don’t think you need to measure everything. We think you should measure what matters.

That’s why we built MustDuo — to make resistance training measurable.
